After two years on the road and in the studio with Stephan Eicher, Hank recorded this eclectic collection of songs in the south of France, in the north of the Netherlands and in Switzerland’s harsh winter. Eicher produces, co-writes and plays an arsenal of instruments, Simon Baumann plays drums and electronica, Reyn Ouwehand shines on keyboards and bass, Shirley Grimes guests on vocals, Baptiste Germser and Michael Flury from Eicher’s band make cameos. From the opening futuristic blues-stomp “Rocket Ship” to a showdown with the Almighty in “He Is Not”, from the honeydripping torch-song “Light Up” to the vaudeville hipshaker “Like It’s 1929” – Songsmith never ceases to amaze and surprise.
